I need to express my opinion on something here. Something I think it becoming more and more a problem in this community. Converting lossless files and uploading as mp3. Where as some of you seem to think it's not a big deal. It is. It will be the demise of this trading community if it keeps up. I know you're thinking, what does it hurt to upload a song or two in mp3? The tapers just request we not convert and distribute entire shows in mp3. Wrong. Many tapers do NOT think it's okay to dish out individual mp3s of their tapes. The ones that do, convert the single songs themselves. That does not give you or I the okay to do any more than that.
See, here's what happens. Crumbo (we'll use him as an example because I know his stance on this issue is the same as mine) tapes the Alpine show. He releases one song from each night. Someone converts another song and uploads it. Someone else converts another song and uploads it. Let's face it, we all have different songs that are our favorites so it's natural to assume that the first song that Crumbo converted and released as an mp3 is not the song that everyone wanted to hear. Next thing you know the entire show has been converted to lossy and uploaded. One mp3 at a time. Then someone collects them all, burns them to a CD and starts trading them. Don't tell me it can't happen because it can and it has.
The only excuses people give for converting are either they can't figure out how to play the lossless files or they can't figure out how to convert them. Not good enough. There are plenty of people willing to help you out if that's your issue. Those are just not going to fly. Not only can you make a single post in any thread of ants or ufck or whatever board you frequent and ask, I have this info on this site. It takes 2 minutes to learn to convert them or play them. It's plain lazy and insulting to the tapers after all the time and money they've spent for you to actually have the nerve to act like it's your right to do what you want with these files.
Let's stop being selfish and learn to have a little respect for those that give so much to this community. Without them, I wouldn't have over 800 live shows and neither would you.
